Easy Homemade Play Doh

Looking for a fun sensory activity to do with your child? I love play doh because it’s engaging for all ages! When I make play doh at our house, I can count on my 9 year old, 7 year old, and 1.5 year old being engaged. The way they use the play doh and their learning experiences are different, but nevertheless, they all LOVE it!

Why do I make my own play doh? For one, it’s much cheaper! Two, I know the ingredients that go into the play doh are safe if accidently ingested by my toddler. Finally, I like the texture of the homemade play doh and it seems to last longer when stored correctly.

Here’s how you can make your own:

Ingredients:

2 cups of flour

2 cups of water

4 teaspoons of cream of tartar

1 cup of salt

2 tablespoons of oil

Food Coloring of Choice

Mix all ingredients together in a saucepan over medium heat. Once it begins to form into a ball with a soft, not wet texture, remove from heat and cool on a cutting board.

Once cool, knead slightly and play! Store in an airtight container or bag!
