You Can Take the Teacher out of the Classroom…

I’m sure you’ve heard the expression “you can take the teacher out of the classroom, but you can’t take the classroom out of the teacher.” Truer words have never been spoken! I think when you’re a teacher, your teacher brain is just always on!

From the time I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. “School” was my favorite game to play. In addition, my mom owned her own preschool, and I spent many hours in her classroom seeing firsthand what the “teacher life” was all about.

Fast forward to college where I earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education followed by a master’s degree in literacy education. I started teaching right after graduation, and I taught for 13 years before deciding to take the leap from full time teacher mama to full time stay at home mama.

When I resigned from teaching and decided to focus solely on my role as “mama,” I didn’t exactly feel the sense of relief I expected. After much reflection, I realized that this is because being a teacher is very much part of who I am. I love teaching. I love creating. I love evaluating, and analyzing, and creating plans that lead to growth and learning. What I soon came to realize, however, is that this work does not only happen within the four walls of a classroom. When you’re a teacher, your teacher brain is always working. These experiences that I loved within the classroom are still very much possible outside the classroom. It was this reflecting that led me to the creation of Little Village.

…Enter Little Village!

My goal here is to continue to do what I love- provide opportunities for learning! This blog will be all things momming with a special emphasis on learning through play! In addition, our physical location will offer a play lounge for you and your kiddos! My goal is to create a space that is inviting and provides a space where your child can learn and connect through play!

Happy Playing!
